    Migrant Workers Support Center Opened in Ansan

(Ansan=연합News) 강창구 기자 = On June 15th, the Migrant Workers Support Center to provide the migrant workers with several welfare programs opened in Ansan, Kyongkido.

The center placed in the fourth floor of Ansan Wongok-dong plaza building contains the civil rights office and the counselling office; 10 officials in charge of four different categories-general management, civil rights, cultural education, and welfare sponsorship-works here.

The center will aid the migrant workers not only in solving the union problems such as seeking employment, and receiving wages, but also in settling in the new culture through the education of Korean language and custom to eliminate any possible misunderstandings and animosities.

Also, with the translation program, volunteering program, and festivals for social purposes, it will introduce more opportunities for the migrant workers and the natives to bond and build friendship.

The city government has planned to move the center to a 3-story building in Wongokdong, financing 33billion 9thousand won.

신축될 센터에는 외국인 근로자를 전담 진료할 원곡보건지소도 함께 입주, 의료혜택의 사각지대에 놓여 있는 외국인 근로자를 위한 1차 무료 진료와 건강검진, 임산부 및 출산아 관리 등을 담당하게 된다.
The new center will also have a public health center, and it will be an easy access for the migrant workers to receive free medical examination and treatment, help in pregnancy and delivery.

The city government offical said, "The center will enable the migrant workers to learn the culture, to receive better welfare and health treatment, and to be better informed of job offers, wage matters, and the education of their children."


There are about 37000 migrant workers residing in Ansan, having Banwol, Sihwa industrial cities in the rear.
