For the Safe Use of Convenient Gas
Contact the following in case of accidents

*        Types of fuel gases
l         LP gas (LPG liquefied petroleum gas)
Ø        Distributed in can s of 20kg. and more.
Ø        Delivered by ordering or contracting with gas distributing companies in the town.
Ø        Compressed and cooled petroleum gas (Comes out during refining imported petroleum)
Ø        Compressed by a 250th and put in cans for the conveniences of management and use (State changes from gas to liquid)
Ø        Main ingredients are propane and butane.
Ø        When leaking, it goes down to the bottom because it is heavier than air.
 
l         City gas (LNG, liquefied natural gas)
Ø        Supplied through piping laid underground.
Ø        Supplied through the supplying pipes of city gas companies.
Ø        Compressed and cooled natural gas that comes from gas fields.
Ø        Main ingredient is methane.
Ø        Normally supplied through piping as the mixture of LNG and air.
Ø        When leaking, it goes up because it is lighter than air.
 
l         Butane cans
Ø        Disposable fuel gas available at supermarkets or stores.
Ø        Fuel gas for portable butane burners
Ø        Main ingredient is butane and heavier than air (goes down to the bottom)
 
*        Safe use of gas
l         Ordinary times
Ø        Cleanse burner head- the part that is ignited-well to heighten the efficiency of combustion.
Ø        Check for leakages by applying soap bubbles on joints of valves and connecting part of hoses (once per 4 to 6 months)
 
l         Before use
Ø        Open windows and supply enough air indoors
Ø        .Consumes air of 12 times as much as gas when it burns.
Ø        If indoor air (oxygen) is insufficient, the color of flame changes from blue to yellow.
 
l         During use
Ø        Put everything that can be burnt away from gas range/ burner.
Ø        Check if food overflows and puts the fire out while cooking.
l         After use
Ø        Lock the valve of the burner and middle valve (these days, fuse coock)
 
*        Gas leakage
l         Smells strange
Ø        Fuel gases originally have no odors but are supplied with smelling ingredients added. Therefore, you can notice when gas is leaking when is leaking.
 
l         Check with soap bubbles
Ø        Apply soap bubbles on connecting parts of hoses and surface of old hoses to check if gas is leaking.
 
l         Gasometer moves.
Ø        If gasometer is moving when not using gas indoors, gas is leaking somewhere indoors.
 
*        What can l do when gas leaks?
l         Do not be flurried.
Ø        You are safe if take necessary measures.
 
l         Lock the valves
Ø        Lock the middle valve first and then lock the valve on the top of LPG can or lock the main valve in case of city gas.
 
l         Open windows.
Ø        Open windows and doors for indoor air to go out.
Ø        When doing this, do not use electric devices such as fans.
 
l         Contract experts for repair.
Ø        Contact local city gas office or LPG provider and have examination.
 
*        Accidents examples (foreigners-related)
According to statistics, about 100 gas-related accidents’ are happening every year.
 
l         Recent accidents example related to foreign workers.
Ø        Time: January 30, 2005
Ø        Place: Jonggok-dong, Kwangjin-gu, Seoul
Ø        Accident: Intoxication by waste gas of boiler.
Ø        Damage: 1 dead, 1 seriously injured (2 Mongolians)
Ø        Cause: Indoor inflow of waste gas caused by dilapidated boiler and bad connection og ventilator (Carless handling of user, bad maintenance)
